Show Description
Michael Rowntree held to premillennialism for years, mostly by default because nearly everyone he knew was premill. Then he preached through the book of Revelation.
In the first of two episodes on Revelation 20, Josh sits down with Michael to talk about the thousand-year reign of Christ and what the rest of the New Testament says will happen when Jesus returns.
ABOUT THE EPISODE
Josh and Michael begin by walking through premillennialism, postmillennialism, and amillennialism, including the different branches within each. They also look at how Christians have held these views over the centuries, from Justin Martyr and Augustine to Luther and Calvin, and into the nineteenth century, when dispensationalism took hold. Michael then turns to the New Testament passages that speak most clearly about Christ’s return, including John 5:28–29, 2 Thessalonians 1:9–10, 1 Corinthians 15, and Romans 8. He explores what they say about the resurrection, the final judgment, the end of death, and the renewal of creation. Josh raises the hard questions each view has to answer, Ezekiel’s temple among them.
This is a secondary issue, and we want to talk about it like one. Michael makes his case, but he holds it with an open hand, and he’s clear that believers who land elsewhere are still his brothers and sisters in Christ.
